Matt and I headed over to Loudon Country Club this week to meet up with Chris and Alison.

Both new to golf – this was their first time out on a course! Matt had them start by hitting a small bucket of balls at the on-course driving range.
I always like being able to hit a few balls right before heading out on the course. It helps me loosen up my body and focus my mind.
After a few tips from Matt and a couple of successful swings from everyone, we headed over to tee off.

There was a charity event going on, so we started out on the back nine.
The ninth hole is a tricky little par 4 with a hidden green and a water hazard. The fairway doglegs to the right toward the top of the hill.

We decided to play a four person scramble. I love this format – especially for beginners. It’s simply a great way to help new golfers enjoy being out on the course no matter where their ball ends up…
Chris, Alison, and I had a little trouble getting off the first tee, but Matt hit a great shot into the fairway. With a chip up to the green and a two putt finish, we walked off the first hole at +1.
The next few holes were a little rocky for everyone. Whatever we were doing right on the driving range just wasn’t following us around the golf course.
This happens to everyone – no matter how long they’ve been golfing. Alison and Chris handled it well with patience and a good sense of humor.

Once they had a chance to settle in and get comfortable, they were able to pull off some great shots – and their chipping was impressive!

I never did find my swing this time around… but I did make some good putts.

Overall, we worked well together as a team and everyone had a great time – We’ll call that a successful day on the course!
It was so much fun to be out playing with first time golfers. A huge thank you to Chris and Alison for letting us film their experience. You both did a great job!
