Intervale Country Club – Manchester, NH

It’s been a hot one this week in New England!  Luckily for us,  it cooled down just in time for our next round of golf.  With a light wind and temps in the 70’s,  Matt and I couldn’t have asked for a better day to meet up with Jerry,  Phyllis,  and Sue at Intervale Country Club.

If you’ve been following us,  you’ll remember Phyllis and Sue from our first excursion back in May.  It was great to be reunited with these ladies on such a gorgeous day.

Once everyone arrived,  we did some warming up on the practice green while waiting to be announced over the loudspeaker as the next group to tee off.

Matt Thibeault,  the head pro at Intervale Country Club,  does a great job keeping an old time feel on a modern golf course.  Hearing him announce which group tees off next was one of my favorite features of the day…  it added so much character and charm to our overall golfing experience.  I’ll come back just for that!

What a fantastic course this is for beginners.  Following the Merrimack River on the north side of Manchester  –  it’s relatively flat with open fairways and really nice greens.  There were just enough hazards,  bunkers,  and trees to keep things interesting without making me feel frustrated or overwhelmed  –  and I only lost one golf ball.

This course also has some interesting history.  It’s the home of Jesse Guilford –  a local golf legend and member of the first Walker Cup Team.

His family donated part of the land to extend Intervale Country Club from a 6 hole golf course back in the early 1900’s to the 9 hole course it is today.  You can see the Guilford Oak and commemorative gardens out by the 8th tee box.

Phyllis and Sue played well this round.  I can tell they’ve both been practicing.  Jerry also had some really good shots out there.

We were having so much fun playing we ended up loosing track of the score somewhere around the 4th hole.

But honestly,  as a beginner,  I prefer playing  ‘no score’  golf.  I’m sure at some point I’ll want to keep my score,  get a handicap,  and maybe even join a league.

Until then,  it’s much more enjoyable for me to learn the game when I’m not beating myself up trying to make par…

Thank you so much to Jerry,  Phyllis,  and Sue for joining us out on the course today.  And a special thank you to Matt Thibeault at Intervale Country Club for giving us a warm welcome!
