Beaver Meadow Golf Course – Concord, NH

This weekend I learned it was the Ladies  –  way back in 1895  –  who were responsible for getting golf started in Concord,  NH!

Beaver Meadow Golf Course was established by three women and a gentleman in the  1890’s  –  making this one of the oldest courses in the state.  It was nice to honor the long-standing tradition of women’s golf on this course by playing a round with three lovely ladies  –  Nancy,  Liz,  and Christina.

Nancy and I arrived a little early to warm up.  Beaver Meadow has a fantastic practice facility.  There’s a full driving range with grass hitting area,  sand bunker and pitching set up,  and large putting green  –  letting you work on whatever you want before heading out to play your round.

As soon as Liz and Christina arrived,  we headed over to the first tee box to start our round.  Phil Davis,  the head pro at Beaver Meadow,  told us the green conditions were firm and fast.  He advised us to play short and utilize a  ‘bump and run’  chipping technique.

As we played through the course,  Matt encouraged us to use our 8 or 9 irons on our bump and run approach shots.  I really like this style of chipping.  It keeps the ball low to the ground  –  helping me feel like I have more control over the speed and direction.

I felt the front nine on this course was a bit easier.  It has wide fairways and gentle approaches to the greens.  The undulation,  water features,  and narrower fairways on the back nine make this part of the course a bit more challenging.

Overall,  I really enjoyed playing this course  –  especially with our group of ladies.  Everyone we met was friendly,  the course was in great shape,  and the clubhouse serves up the best burger in town.  If you’re anywhere near Concord,  NH  –  come check out Beaver Meadow Golf Course.
